HBO Max Pa’lante! celebrates bachata history with a one-of-a-kind interactive pop-up in New York, “House of Bachata”, promoting upcoming documentary and concert ROMEO SANTOS: KING OF BACHATE and ROMEO SANTOS: UTOPIA LIVE FROM METLIFE STADIUM, start FRIDAY JULY 30 on HBO Max.
The documentary traces the rise of the disenfranchised genre from the Dominican Republic’s oppressed countryside to unprecedented international recognition, culminating with a record-breaking concert featuring Romeo Santos, alongside the legendary bachateros who led the way. before him.
The week-long “House of Bachata” pop-up experience, located in Washington Heights, in the heart of the Dominican Diaspora, will take place at 421 W 202nd St (10th Ave) from July 30 to August 6 (12pm to 8 p.m. ET). ). KING OF BACHATA, directed by Charles Todd and Devin Amar, and produced by Sony Music Latin, Chimby Productions and Scheme Engine, combines the making of and the best moments of this ambitious concert with the travels of the late night host, writer and Dominican comedian, Joel “The Kid Mero” Martinez as he travels to the Caribbean nation to find the bachata soul. Mero’s journey takes us to the restaurants and bars of the Dominican Republic’s countryside, where the sound originates and traces its rise to international recognition. We also get a behind-the-scenes look at Santos’ creative process, his inspirations and tireless work in the studio.
This documentary and concert film is a love letter to the genre, inspired by Romeo’s Utopia album. With surprise performances by Cardi B and Aventura, the concert is a unique celebration of Latin culture and a defining moment in the history of Latin music.
